I'm starting a new job in September and I'm going to be doing a lot more motorway miles. Considering a diesel (same as everybody I guess). I may get company car or car allowance so i'm trying to get best deal. If I can't get a good deal I might use the money I'll lose on changing car towards LPG conversion. I have received a valuation as a part exchange for my car of £4,500 and that is what I was looking for. At the moment I am only looking to see what I could get for my money and it will probably be within the next 6 months when I start buying a used mercedes.  Feedback rating by Mark in SalfordMark in Salford25/07/2008 18:26Other valuation websites value at around £8500. The car is immaculate and your valuation is an insult. You are suggesting that my car has devalued by around £6000 in 20 months- No way Hi mark i have had a look at your feedback :-( .
I have spent some time working out the true valuation for your car. first i had noticed that you have asked for a price to sell your car to a dealer with cash back. and that you described your car as only to be in fair Condition. I presume from your reply that you may have missed the condition box, its easy to do and i will look into a way of resolving this. Still its impossible for any instant valuation website to be 100% accurate 100% of the time for its a computer thats gives you a instant price. we find our system to be accurate the majority of the time, it uses data from leading motor trade guides that are updated constantly.

Car: VAUXHALL VECTRA DIESEL ESTATE
Model: 1.9 CDTi SRi [150] 5dr (2005 to Present)
Year: 2005 - 55
Condition: Fair
Mileage: 38000
Reason for enquiry:   Car with cashback

So here we go i will do my best to help.

1ST we tend to look at CAP (Black book) yours books at £6275 Below £6925 Avg, £7475 cap clean with 38500 miles. with a retail price of £8975 (cap id 31831).

Then we turn to Glass's guide which gives us only one trade price with avg miles £7425 retailing at £8975 its lost -£350 from last mths guide as a hatchback there was no listing for an estate car on your year (page 1454 in march).

Finally we try and find the same car for sale online, also look at how rare or desirable the car is and need to have a detailed description on condition, owners, and service history etc etc. 

So all that said its obvious that there is a lot more to valuing a car than it may seem

your car as a SRI sports model is more sought after as a hatchback but still a nice car as an estate ! I will be happy to give a cash price today of £7075, with a p/x or private sale  price of £7500 to £8000.

Vauxall Astra Five door hatchback SXI 1598CC 169 G/M Petrol Silver First Reg. 24/09/2002 Recorded mileage less than 29,000 Car alarm fitted. (Selca System cost £250) Tax to 31/11/08 MOT to 26/09/08 2 oweners Left side back door has scratches on it and needs attention also the bar across the hatch back, I have forgotten what they call that, has caught on the up and over garage door and is slightly damaged. There is enough mark up /profit making in the motor trade as it is , funny how these prices quoted never comes near when trying to buy from dealers etc... free parkers guide, free glasses valuation and black book cap will all give an approximate price the only way to be more accurate is to call and visit us at one of our car showrooms and we will be happy to give you a true valuation

The system we use can only give a guide value for your car it can not take into account many different variables like wear and tear or the current economic climate, if contacted we are more than happy to give an accurate valuation in truth on this occasion all be it you was hoping for a more generous price i feel the system has over valued your vehicle.
